GET TO KNOW...
Lewis Lindenberg, owner of Melonbike

01. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I wanted to be an Olympic swimmer for Germany.

02. What was your first job?
I was the head coach for the Extreme Aquatic Team in Edmond for seven years. Taking kids to state, regional and national championships.

03. What do you like to do in your free time?
Sports of any kind, mainly cycling, swimming, basketball, soccer, snowboarding, wakeboarding and at one point kite surfing until I almost killed myself… you might have seen me in the documentary “Liquid Wind”. Spend time with my wonderful girlfriend and my friends; they are my family away from home.

04. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Treat others like you would want to be treated yourself.

05. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
I’ve been in the bicycle industry for about 5 years. I started a little parts store that developed into a full size bicycle store.

06. Why do you choose to operate your business in Oklahoma as opposed to somewhere else?
I came to Oklahoma 16 years ago as a foreign exchange student from Germany and never went back. The people here are super friendly, compared to Germany there is no red tape and the taxes are bearable. Most of all the weather, you can ride all year around!

07. Why do you think it’s important to keep it local?
Keeping it local supports everyone around us that lives in this state. Everything we buy from a local business benefits schools, infrastructure, hospitals, youth groups and much more. Local businesses in this city are able to cater directly to their customers without having to ask upper management that might be located in another state.

08. What locally owned business (other than your own) could you not live without?
There are so many of them. Places that come to mind are Old Germany Restaurant, Brass Bell Studios, Core Extreme Sports, Saii, Café Nova, Speakeasy, No Regrets Tattoos and the Farmers Market.

09. Our Facebook fans want to know: What is it that sets you apart from the national chains and promotes loyal, repeat customers?
We want to make sure that when you purchase a bicycle from us you get exactly what you are looking for. We will sell you a bicycle based on your needs and not based on our profit margin. We stock a HUGE selection of parts and accessories and are happy to make special orders to meet all your bicycle needs. We are a full service bicycle shop and will help you with any mechanical problem you might have.

10. Our Twitter followers want to know: What drives you to keep doing what you do?
Selling a product that is good for the planet and keeps people fit and healthy. “Gas sucks, ride a bike”
