Mary Ann High-Webb & Lindsay Davis, owners of The Lime Leopard
01. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
Mary Ann: I knew I wanted to be in some type of helping field and I also love to interact with people, thus I became a nurse and that career worked well for me as a young adult. However, as I grew I knew I had a knack for being creative. I love fashion, home décor, and jewelry! The Lime Leopard is the perfect fit for me because I love all of the elements of our store from our custom gift wrap to the Pine Cone Hill Bedding to our awesome jewelry selection!
Lindsay: I always wanted to be a mother; I also thought that I might like to be a doctor as well because I love helping people. This business has worked out well because it allows time & flexibility for me to be a mother and I get to help people and make them feel good by offering them current fashion and helping them dress to flatter their figure.
02. What was your first job?
Mary Ann: I grew up on Lawton, OK and my first job was at Montgomery Ward selling shoes!!!
Lindsay: I also grew up in Lawton, OK and my first job was working at Putt-Putt Golf!!!
03. What do you like to do in your free time?
Mary Ann: I love to be at home….I love to cook, watch television, and decorate; I also enjoy exercising, spending time with my family and friends and of course I love to shop!!!
Lindsay: I love to spend time with my friends and family, to play with my precious son, watch television and I always have and always will love to shop!!!!
04. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Mary Ann: That unsolicited advice is the same as criticism……
Lindsay: The only constant in life is change!
05. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
Mary Ann & Lindsay: The Lime Leopard has been in business for almost 14 years now. We are the third owners and we took possession of the store on December 4, 2009; we always loved the store and often took long walks and dreamed of owning it and thinking about all of the services and merchandise we wanted to offer our customers. The experience has truly been a dream come true for both of us and we love serving our customers and thank them for their support and loyalty.
06. Why do you choose to operate your business in Oklahoma as opposed to somewhere else?
Lindsay and Mary Ann: We were both born and raised in Oklahoma and our families have been here literally since the land run! We love the simplicity of living in Oklahoma City and find that the people here are more friendly and kind than anywhere else we’ve visited.
07. Why do you think its important to keep it local?
Lindsay and Mary Ann: Shopping locally is so very important for the economy of our city and state. Oklahomans must realize that shopping with your local merchants, rather than online and in large cities, only benefits our city, state and ourselves. If we want to have boutiques that are available for us to try on clothing and by unique gifts and home décor it is vitally important to support our local merchants. Large thriving cities do not need your tax dollars! We Oklahomans need to ban together and shop locally to ensure that our city is a large and thriving city!!
08. What locally owned business (other than your own) could you not live without?
Mary Ann & Lindsay: There are so many that it is impossible to choose just one!!! We love Rococo….literally the best crab cakes in the universe!!! We also love BC Clark….they have the gifts that will live and live!!!
09. Our Facebook fans want to know: What is it that sets you apart from the national chains and promotes loyal, repeat customers?
Mary Ann & Lindsay: Our customer service and custom gift wrap definitely set us apart! When you have a gift wrapped at The Lime Leopard everyone knows the minute they see the gift that it came from our store. We also offer a personalized shopping experience. Our staff is always here and ready to assist you as much or as little as you want to be assisted. We also carry unique clothing lines that you won’t see yourself in, unlike the larger chains that cut thousands of the same garment. We also have a wide selection of unique gifting items such as Tickled Pink frames that are designed and hand painted by local artists right here in Oklahoma City. We also offer sofa pillows that are beautiful, well constructed and manufactured in Oklahoma as well.
10. Our Twitter followers want to know: What drives you to keep doing what you do?
Mary Ann & Lindsay: We love what we do! The Lime Leopard is now a family business including Mary Ann, her sister Sherry and her niece Lindsay. We love finding the best fashion, home décor and gifts that money can buy and offering them to our customers on a daily basis. Our parents, Jean and Gerald, taught us so many practical life lessons and we believe that this store and all of the many facets of making it work, are a gift from them….we love you mom and dad….
