Local Edmond Eats

Posted: 2/5/18

As an Edmondite for 23 years, I've often heard my hometown referred to as a place with no taste. While it might not be as quick to jump on new restaurants as OKC, Edmond is definitely not lacking in its own local food gems. It just takes a little more digging. Below are a few of my favorite locally owned restaurants in Edmond that are worth the drive north.

Rocky Mountain Grill

My dad does this thing where he mumbles through his order of "onepancakewarmsyrup" as one word at any breakfast place we go. At Rocky Mountain Grill, he needn't even mumble. The owner, Scott, knows just about everyone who walks through his doors and what they order. If he hasn't met a customer, he's always quick to introduce himself and win them over with one of his green-chile-covered creations. It's Oklahoma hospitality meets New Mexican staples. No one-word orders necessary.  website

I often forget this place has a real name because my friends and I have always called it 3T's. Or maybe I forget because I've had many a frozen margarita here. Regardless, this family-run holy grail of Mexican food is for sure not to be forgotten. I can tell you from personal experience, nothing beats downing a Carlos Especial while being serenaded by a man with a guitar. website

It all started here... My love affair with waffles, that is. Some of my first memories are of coming to this place with my dad as a kid. Over twenty years later, nothing has changed (other than maybe a few more rooster decorations on their already wonderfully-cluttered walls). It's awesome basic breakfast food that can only be achieved by a place that's been around for almost 70 years. If you don't come here for a plain (yes, plain) waffle and eat it with your hands, my 3-year-old self is real sad about what you're missing out on.  website

Thai Delight

Let's be honest - I don't always have it in me to drive 25 minutes to OKC for dinner. This place has become my dinner go-to for when I'm sick of the usual chain restaurants in Edmond, but I'm too lazy to drive. A good Thai place is a restaurant necessity in my book. Thai Delight never disappoints and there's always enough food left to take home for a midnight curry craving.  website

Carnitas Michoacan

306 W Edmond Road, Edmond, OK 73003 | 405-341-0356

After a trip to Colorado where I discovered the bliss that is horchata, I found myself asking "why does nowhere in Edmond serve horchata?!" That is, until I stumbled into Michoacan. Stumble is the most fitting word, because this is one of those places that you'd never find by just driving by. But the smell of street tacos is enough to bring any wanderer in. There's nothing fancy about this taco stop, but hey, that's how you know it's good.  website
