GET TO KNOW...

Jake Shelton, owner of

01. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A Ninja... 100%

02. What was your first job?
Produce Section of my local Grocery Store... I think that's why I like fruits & veggies so much.

03. What do you like to do in your free time?
Anything on a board... It always brings a new adventure in itself.

04. What's the best advice you've ever received?
My brother likes to think he's a Philosopher from time to time, and is always giving me advise. But, I think the best advice I've received from him, above all else, was "Don't let others' actions change who you are." I always took that as, no matter who you hang around with or come across, you don't have to follow, set yourself apart as your own person.

05. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
10 months going now... I've been a part of the board shop that was previously here for the last 15 years in one way or another, and after being contacted about it closing down, I moved back from Durango, Co with all I had to try and give it many more years. For the ones that have always came here and for the future groms that will grow up here.

06. Why do you choose to operate your business in Oklahoma as opposed to somewhere else?
Every time I'm in another state & wearing something pertaining to Oklahoma, I always run into someone else from Oklahoma that will strike up a friendly conversation. And never has anyone said anything negative about it. I think Oklahoma is a place that anyone can call Home.

07. Why do you think its important to keep it local?
I think it brings us together as one community. It's nice being able know the names of everyone you see.

08. What locally owned business (other than your own) could you not live without?
Every Restaurant, Diner, Cafe' Associated with Keep It Local... I definitely take advantage of all the amazing eateries that are local.

09. Our Facebook fans want to know: What is it that sets you apart from the national chains and promotes loyal, repeat customers?
That was goal 1: doing things & carrying brands that the national chains don't! I like being able to carry local brands as well as being able to bring in something that a customer might suggest. I want to have all kinds of events that will allow people to be a part of the shop. We already have a few lined up that OKC has never gotten to be a part of. Goal 2 was to get to know all my customers personally. Like I said, I want everyone to feel like a part of the shop.

10. Our Twitter followers want to know: What drives you to keep doing what you do?
Two weeks ago I had a little skate sesh with an 7 year old kid (Tyler) in the store. He landed a Hard Flip (YouTube Hard Flip) for the first time. Things like that keep me doing what I do.
