When you’re craving barbecue but want something a step above paper towels and plastic trays, Iron Star Urban Barbecue is the move. Open since 2002 and named after the notorious Oklahoma outlaw Belle Starr, Iron Star nods to bygone days with its wood floors, exposed brick walls, and warm, old-school atmosphere. It feels historic without feeling stuck in the past.
What sets it apart is the way it balances fine-dining polish with true smokehouse flavor. The meats are smoked low and slow, the sides are dialed in (we love the fancy mac & cheese and the whole fried okra), and the menu offers a thoughtful spin on Southern classics without losing what makes them satisfying in the first place. It works just as well for a business lunch as it does for a laid-back dinner when you’re craving brisket and pork ribs.
