Oklahoma City, OK 73103
Cheever’s Café has been an Oklahoma City staple since 2000, serving “contemporary comfort food” with a Southwest twist inside a restored historic flower shop at the corner of Hudson and NW 23rd in the Uptown 23rd District. The space still nods to its floral past (there’s even a former walk-in flower cooler now filled with wine and desserts) while the kitchen turns out their upscale takes on comfort food classics.
For a true taste of Oklahoma, order the Cheever’s Chicken Fried Steak with jalapeño cream gravy (a dish that's practically a state law). And for dessert, the legendary Roasted Pecan Ice Cream Ball - a full pound of vanilla ice cream rolled in brown sugar–roasted pecans and red chile, then drenched in chocolate sauce - is non-negotiable. Whether it’s date night, a celebration, or just an unreasonably good weekday lunch, Cheever’s is the kind of place you visit once and immediately start plotting your return.
Good to Know:
• Cheever’s Café sits inside a historic 1938 Art Deco building that once housed Cheever’s Flowers, started by Oklahoma Belle Cunningham who was born during Oklahoma City’s founding days. The original terrazzo floors and 20-foot flower cooler are still here, preserving the charm of three generations of family history.
• Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm, featuring menu favorites like Shrimp and Grits - bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp over cheddar-green onion grits with sriracha-honey butter - and Stuffed French Toast filled with mascarpone, caramelized peaches, and whipped cream.
• Limited parking is available directly behind the restaurant, but most guests rely on street parking. Watch out for tow-away zones, especially in nearby alleys. Tip: There’s a free parking lot just a short walk from Cheever’s on the south side of NW 23rd across from the Tower Theatre, complete with a pedestrian crosswalk light to help you cross the busy intersection.
