GET TO KNOW...
Megan DeShazo, owner of Deshazo Photography

01. What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A teacher, a dentist, a dancer, a mom...I think it changed with the grade.

02. What was your first job?
I worked in a concession stand at the Broken Arrow Baseball fields. I still make a perfect mustard squiggle to this day. :)

03. What do you like to do in your free time?
Spend time with my husband, Kevin, and son, Gabe, read, antique shopping, and studying up on photography

04. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing in the industry. Create work that comes from the heart.

05. How long have you been in business and how did you get started?
I've been in business for 2 years. I bought my first DSLR camera after my husband and I got married. I decided, "If I'm going to have this camera, then I'm going to know how to use it." After that I taught myself photoshop, then started to take photos for friends and DeShazo Photography blossomed from there.

06. Why do you choose to operate your business in Oklahoma as opposed to somewhere else?
I love Oklahoma. I'm Oklahoma born and raised and couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

07. Why do you think its important to keep it local?
We have so many creative people in Oklahoma. I think it's important to support them and the quality of products they provide.

08. What locally owned business (other than your own) could you not live without?
so tough...Cafe Evoke, Keep It Local OK, Iguana Mexican Grill, Cuppies and Joe, Iron Starr, Crest Foods

09. Our Facebook fans want to know: What is it that sets you apart from the national chains and promotes loyal, repeat customers?
DeShazo Photography is completely custom...not just a studio where you are rushed in front of a white backdrop, given 15 minutes to say "cheese" and rushed out for the next family in line. I like my sessions to be fun, imaginative and a little bit whimsical. I like to collaborate with my clients on concepts, props and locations that hold special meaning to them. I tailor each session to my individual client. The more creative we get, the more fun we all have and the more my clients cherish their art.

10. Our Twitter followers want to know: What drives you to keep doing what you do?
A blend of passion, ambition, and the desire to always learn more and consistently improve.
